Arthur:
This is a personal letter and I hope Howard give it to you himself. I will try to write you a few lines this New year's Eve to let you know I am thinking of you. I long for a glimpse of you, my dearest.
I have enjoyed my stay at your side very much, so it was with a mixed feeling of sadness and joy when I was on the other side of the ocean. You’ve told me that war breaks down barriers and when peacetime retreat, but please don’t make my dreams stamp in the dust. I never told my love vocally, still, if looks have language, the merest idiot might have guessed I was over head and ears. I love you and my words and deeds will testify to my heart.
After the battle of Leyte Gulf Japanese still try to chuck everything they’ve got at us and we chuck it back harder. I shouldn't talk about the warfare, yet it is such a matter of life and death. It is utterly banal in those conference calls. But I can’t wait to tell you that thing looking pretty good on our side these days, for which I sure will meet with you in France soon.
Sorry couldn’t be with you at your darkest hour. I worry you a great deal, all the time. But I believe with determination, with luck, and with help from lots of your brave folks, you’ve risen from the ashes. I see our fate in terms of the nations’ own destinies. What we live by would survive or fall with the nations themselves. We have to keep going whatever happens. Our business at this very moment is to lead the Anglo-American armies. We shall fight side by side, for those defenders in service of their countries and for our civilians standing behind us. We won’t retreat, we never have and never will.
Greeting to his majesty and Winston. Franklin and I are highly appreciative of the efforts they make to bring about the world peace.

我留恋待在你身旁的感觉，因此当身处大洋彼岸时我心中总是悲喜交加。你告诉我战争能够暂时消除隔阂，一旦和平降临将有高墙再起。但是求你不要让我空欢喜一场。我从未亲口诉说爱情，但如果眼睛也会说话，就是傻子也能猜出来我已经坠入爱河。我爱你，我的言行将证明这一点。
莱特湾战役之后日军依旧在负隅顽抗，我们加倍反击。我不该谈战事，尽管生死攸关，但这些东西已经在电话会议里谈烂了。可我还是等不及告诉你我们的战况不错，这意味着我很快就能去法国见你。
抱歉不能在你最黑暗的时候陪伴你。我一直都很担心你。但我相信决心，好运和你勇敢的人民已经帮助你重振旗鼓。我们的命运与国家紧密相连，我们与国家共存亡。不管发生什么事，我们都要坚持下去。在这非常时刻我们的任务是领导英美联军。我们将并肩战斗，为那些为国捐躯者和站在我们身后的平民而战。我们不会后退，我们不曾后退，永远不会后退。
